"absent minded professor" edition update..

like the title states, total randomness. i started and stopped this update too many times too count, and have just given in, and am going to just throw it together. these first shots, are of the damage that i had done to my 5 speed trans over the last summer

one of the reasons it didnt get driven to as many events as i would have liked last year. that there is what we call bearing failure. not sure what happened, if something got in there, or if some shifting occurred due to the torque loads :)

and then onward to the new transmission. O2M six speed, from a donor 24v gti. once the parts were back from cryo treatment, it was reassembly, and hopefully back into the housing, along with the new Quaiffe soon..

and you think you know how many bearings, seals, etc go into one of these? you dont want to know, and if you do, you fully understand why building a car to hold power and work reliably isnt cheap. ever.

and the pile of parts that had to be replaced...
and last, but not least. and a little more up to current time. tire sidewall shaving/ smoothing. always wanted to try it, and found a way to experiment by accident. cannot wait to see what they look like on the car, esp after giving them a little extra touch that you will have to wait to see...

over and out. for the moment at least....

another update on the golf..

so it getting to be that time of year once again, and as always, my car is the last to get attention. but after heading east last weekend, and the nice dose of weather today, i think i have my head back in the right place. and no shows coming up that i am obligated to attend, so no rush anyhow.

brakes are still a few weeks out. and still awaiting the test pieces for some little bits for the rear, before i get the beam back home, and into the car again. so lots of cleaning and reassembly. as well, been helping out where i can with a friends new design for a short runner intake manifold as well. more on that later as well...

Backpiece session 3

so session number three has come and went. sat for another 3.5 hours on the first, this time under the hand of Dan Dittmer. just got the outline built up on his section of the piece. as you can see, there will be no mistaking it from, say, three or so blocks away!

one more appointment in the beginning of may, then none until September again, so i dont have try and get it worked on over the summer months.

FDR, effing right!

so in my last post, mentioned sitting idle in Philly? out here to relax and Chill with my good pal Rudi aka; Rudeboy. chill for the weekend, and end it all with a trip up to Jersey for Show and Go on sunday. so i arrive, and Rudi grabs me from the airport, to head here to his place. on the way, we are talking about different shows, and scenes and such, and he mentions he wants to show me FDR, where they hold the Toys for Tots gtg every fall. and thats where i want to kick myself...

o thought about bringing my board along, you know, just in case. when you have been around skateboarding as long as i have, its hard not to think of grabbing it to bring along. and heres one of those moments once again, where should have was now a moot point. i never equated FDR and the car stuff, with FDR and skating? so here i stand, at what to me is one of the major historic sites in the US? hand built by the locals over the years, its like the east coast version of Burnside...

backpiece, session two

once again lagging at getting to the blog. but sitting idle in Philly has given me some time..

session two has come and past. i figured i would save most of the pics from that, being as i am sure most people dont want to have to look at my ass haha. but 3.5 more hours of work, all on one cheek!

makes a fun business card holder though haha
